At the start of Season 2 for the "Black-ish" spin off "Grown-ish" produced by Kenya Barris the fashion flood gates re-opened and are showing no signs of letting up. Yet, after constant eyebrow snatching looks from Yara Shahidi's character "Zoey Johnson" and her college crew. Consisting of up and coming fashion icon Luka Sabbat who's character is named after him, and singing group ChloexHalle, all who have their own distinctive styles outside the show (which is why they are not here to play games with the looks they serve every wednesday night on freeform), I stayed up until 3 AM doing a whole lot of reasearch. And I was given a preview into the world of the woman Kenya Barris has labelled his "secret weapon" and the " magic fashion elf", the magnificent Michelle Cole. After countless article readings I am literally in awe of everything that she has accomplished in her career. Her style, vision and her ability to mesh low priced and high fashion couture into the same look is done ever so seamlessly. Tuning into freeform every Wednesday night is apart of my routine. At the end of every episode i'm left drooling and combing websites like "As Seen on TV" to see what and who the characters are wearing. And of course majority of the pieces are sold out within hours of the episodes release. Cole has even had designers such as Karl Lagerfeld draw inspiration from her, specifically for Chanel using themes from her work on "in Living Color". but she doesn't stop there, of course not, why would she !!. In continuation to her many successes, being nominated 5 times for primetime Emmy awards spanning from her time on "In Living Color" in 1991 to her most recent in 2018 for "Black-Ish". Seeing her visions mastered on both men and women of my age group has elevated and cracked every single barrier between me and my fear of "doing too much". Ms.Cole can literally do no wrong from her short shorts and ugg pairings for Zoey Johnson to her dress pant suit and nike kicks for both Rainbow and Andre played by Tracee Ellis-Ross and Anthony Anderson on Black-ish. If there was anyone that I would want to take the time out to pay homage to it would definitely be Ms.Michelle Cole. for not only setting standards but for being the African American female role model doing what many of us young fashionista's inspire to be one day. Seeing a clear path paved, and that the time dedication does pay off no matter how long the road seems, there is a happy ending at the end of it.
